A 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire at a house in Halifax last Friday.
A 66-year-old man was left trapped in the upstairs bedroom of the house on Pellon New Road, Pellon, and had to make a frantic phone call to raise the alarm just before 3.15am, with smoke billowing through the house.
Police officers tried to enter the house, but hindered by thick smoke and had to wait for firemen to arrive.
Two fireman wearing breathing apparatus entered the house through the front door and as they went to locate the occupant, the remaining crews from Halifax, Illingworth and Brighouse managed to extinguish the fire,
The terrified man, who broke the bedroom window in an attempt to escape, was lead to safety down the stairs.
He suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to hospital, but has since been released.
After being quizzed by police, the 50-year-old suspect was released on bail, without charge, pending further enquiries.
