The “clearest image yet” of the man police are hunting following the rape and attempted murder of a woman in Beeston has been released in a new CCTV clip.

Detectives have issued new CCTV images of the man they are trying to trace after the brutal attack on an 18-year-old who was waiting for a bus at a stop in Beeston Road, near to the junction with Tempest Road, on Friday March 6 at around 10.50pm.

Investigators also released footage yesterday showing the suspect walking past the Tesco Express store, in Burley Road at the junction of Westfield Terrace at around 9.45pm.

The new CCTV shows the man further up Burley Road shortly before reaching the store.

Detective Superintendent Nick Wallen, of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: “This latest footage gives the clearest image yet of the man’s facial features and we hope someone will recognise him from it.

“We have received a number of calls in response to yesterday’s media appeal but clearly we’ve not yet had the crucial one that gives us this man’s identity.

“The CCTV clips, the e-fit image, the distinctive walk or limp all paint a very distinctive picture of this man.”

Police believe the suspect is of Pakistani or Middle Eastern appearance, aged in his early 20s, slim with receding hair. He was wearing a green Puma hooded top with a large logo on the front, dark coloured jeans with faded areas on the thighs, white trainers and a dark coloured bomber jacket with a hood.

Det Supt Wallen added: “We are continuing to conduct extensive enquiries to identify this man and we remain determined to find him and bring him to justice.”
