Warning over rogue mobility firms targeting pensioners in West Yorkshire

Elderly residents in Calderdale are being warned to be on their guard against rogue mobility companies after a recent spate of complaints to West Yorkshire Trading Standards.

The service says tactics include calling people and telling them the hospital have passed on their details to the company to arrange a visit, selling a mobility aid to an 85-year-old woman who had memory problems and another woman with dementia and claiming to be from social services or a hospital

Trading Standards have also had a report of a firm telling someone that if they bought an adjustable bed, they would never have any aches and pains again and would be able to stop taking pain killers.

Trading Standards is urging consumers and those who care for the elderly to report such instances to the Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 08454 040506.
