A West Yorkshire Police officer has been summonsed to face charges of assault, dangerous driving and attempting to pervert the course of justice following an Independent Police Complaints Commission investigation.

PC Steven Mullaney, 40, who is based at Lawcroft House Police Station in Bradford, will appear before Sheffield Magistrates Court on Monday, October 22.

The charges relate to an incident in Mary Street, Bradford on March 18 in which a police car, driven by PC Mullaney, hit a 38-year-old man.

The man sustained a number of injuries, including to his shoulder and ankle.

It is alleged the officer deliberately used the vehicle to stop the man and then made an attempt to conceal evidence about the incident.

The Indenpendent Police Complaints Commission conducted an independent investigation into the incident following a referral by West Yorkshire Police.
