Hundreds of people turned out to watch the Red Arrows fly over Calderdale yesterday (Sunday).

The RAF display team flew over Elland Cricket Club as part of the town’s vintage weekend hosted by the Rotary Club.

Onlookers were thrilled by the display and organisers say it was the icing on a fantastic weekend.

David Wilkinson, president of Rotary Club of Elland, said: “I think we achieved what we set out to achieve and its put Elland back in the spotlight.

“I think there’s a very good chance of the event coming back next year.”

The weekend kicked off with a vintage ball and tea dance on Friday and Saturday and vintage lovers flocked to Elland Cricket Club on Sunday to take in the vintage fair.

A Lancaster Bomber was also scheduled to fly over on Sunday afternoon, but due to an engine fault this was not possible.

Mr Wilkinson added: “For people who came to see the Lancaster Bomber we do apologise, but these things do happen.”
