The month long campaign that cooked up cash for Calderdale’s homeless was hailed a culinary and capital success.

The Dine In and Dine Out for SmartMove campaign raised £7,500 thanks to Calderdale residents hosting dinner parties and local eateries donating £1 for every dining party seated, in the second half of the campaign.

Chief executive of homeless charity SmartMove said: “A massive thanks to the Courier for highlighting the campaign. It’s been a great success not just from raising monies but by highlighting the work we do to assist vulnerable Calderdale people.”

One participating restaurant La Casa, Brighouse, donated £428 and offered to continue to take donations over the festive season.

Sam Holmes of La Casa said: “As soon as we heard about the campaign we wanted to get involved. There was great interest from our customers and we feel we have a responsibility to help local good causes.”

With the money raised, SmartMove will continue to offer free educational courses to local vulnerable people across Calderdale.
