Cuts to Rastrick Library’s opening hours have been reduced.
Calderdale Council had proposed to slash its opening hours by a third from 37.5 to 25 hours.
The move would have meant it closing earlier and being shut all day on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Rastrick councillors said the reductions were unfair compared with proposals for other libraries.
Ann McAllister (Con, Rastrick) said: “The proposed cut in hours at Rastrick took no account of its use, or its popularity.
“Rastrick councillors have consulted with users and staff and made strong representations in defence of the library. As a result, we’ve secured a change of heart.”
Under new plans, which take effect from April 1, the library will open from 10am to 1pm every day, then from 2pm to 5pm on Mondays and from 2pm to 6.30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Coun McAllister said: “This reduction is 7.5 hours rather than 12.5 and means the library will be open at some point on every day of the week. It represents a reasonable compromise, given that savings have to be found.”
