SOUTHOWRAM man James Ogden is not one to shy away from a challenge.
So, when the opportunity arose to cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats – with a twist – he jumped at the chance.
The 1,000 mile ride also includes 26 miles of hiking up the three highest peaks in Wales (Snowdon), England (Scafell Pike), and Scotland (Ben Nevis).
James works at Engage Mutual Assurance, Harrogate, which sponsors the Rugby Football League.
Former player Steve Prescott is suffering from terminal cancer and has set up the Steve Prescott Foundation which raises money for The Christie Hospital in Manchester where he receives treatment.
James hopes to raise £2,000 which will go towards the foundation and Try Assist - the rugby league benevolent fund.
He will be joined by 18 others including his colleague Paul Horridge and ex rugby league players including Steve Prescott.
They set off on Saturday and hope to finish in nine days.
“I stopped playing for the Old Brodleians RUFC, Hipperholme, back in February to concentrate on cycling for the challenge,” said James.
