FUN and games - and a free breakfast - are on offer in a revolutionary group for dads and their children in north Halifax.
Dads R Us was set up by Sure Start five years to offer more services to male carers in north Halifax and is on the lookout for more members.
Any male who cares for a child – including uncles and grandfathers – can join the group which meets on the first Saturday over every month.
Neil Bowker, secretary of the group, said: “We meet at different locations around the area - such as Pellon, Mixenden and Illingworth.
“We believe our group is unique in that it brings together male carers and children and gives them both the opportunity to interact and have fun.”
As well as a full cooked breakfast, the group also has use of an allotment in Illingworth and provides opportunities to take children and the carers on day trips and events.
Mr Bowker said: “We’ve taken kids to the zoo as well as camping for a week. We’ve also visited Cannon Hall Farm and had a Christmas party. And we took the dads for a night out to the theatre.
“At Christmas, we organised a visit from Father Christmas which was phenomenal. Half the children had never seen Father Christmas before.
“It’s rewarding - being part of something that grows and gives something back.”
The group has about 25 children and adults as current members but are inviting anyone else to come and join in.
