Emmerdale actor and Dancing on Ice winner Matthew Wolfenden will be the special guest at Square Chapel for the Art’s family fun day on Saturday.
Matthew, grew up in Halifax and is a supporter of theatre and the arts in Calderdale, will officially open the day, which is part of a weekend of events celebrating England’s fantastic architecture and culture, at 12pm.
As well as having the opportunity to meet the actor, visitors will be able to have some fun on a bouncy castle, feast on a barbecue, browse an array of stalls, have a go at one of the family friendly arts and crafts activities and a enjoy a site tour of the new £3.8 million Orangebox young people’s centre development.
There are also workshops scheduled throughout the day.
Halifax’s community samba band, Sambalifax, will be marching through the Piece Hall at 11.30am, playing a few of their rousing rhythm pieces in Square Chapel’s grounds and then delivering a samba drumming workshop at 12pm.
Mike Stocks, from Creature Comforts Animal Sanctuary in Greetland, will be bringing a host of creatures including a parrot, a snake, mischievous ferrets and a few more besides from 1pm to 1.45pm.
Also part of Heritage Open Days, on Sunday, Square Chapel are running backstage tours, so that you can have a sneaky peek at the parts of this Grade II Listed Georgian church not usually seen. Tours start at 12pm and 2pm and are free as well.
