The date has been set for a meeting of supporters and objectors to table their arguments over plans to build a new supermarket in Todmorden.
The Planning Inspectorate will host the public inquiry at Todmorden Town Hall beginning on Tuesday, October 9, at 10am.
The Property Alliance Group and MCR want to build a store for Asda on a former factory site in Halifax Road.
Asda already has planning permission for a store closer to the town centre on Burnley Road but had decided instead to concentrate on the former Hope Street Mill site, which Sainsbury’s had originally shown interest in redeveloping. The scheme has divided shoppers and conservationists, many of whom are fearful about the effect it could have on town centre shops and the market. People will be allowed to comment at the discretion of the planning inspector. The inquiry is likely to last four days.
