Disruption looms with road closure

A MEETING tonight will discuss the implications of a lengthy road closure at Ripponden New Bank.

The route to and from Barkisland/ Greetland/Elland will be disrupted during the resurfacing work.

But, concessions to the original plans have been secured.

Councillor Geraldine Carter (Con, Ryburn) has called the meeting to update residents. She said work was due to start on July 25 and would last three weeks instead of five.

And, the road will now be shut between 7am and 6pm and not for 24 hours as first envisaged.

It will be open Saturday and Sunday and access will be maintained at all times for residents and businesses.

“It’s a massive scheme that will split the community in half for three weeks but there is no other safe alternative.”

She said the work was vital due to the poor condition of the road and it wasn’t suitable to have single-file traffic. The detour follows Greetland Road, Stainland Road, Wakefield Road and Rochdale Road.

The meeting is from 6pm to 6.45pm at the Ripponden Parish Council Offices, Halifax Road.
