Blood donors from Halifax have received awards for offering their services some 100 times.

Stephen Ackroyd and Gordon Grady reached the huge milestone for the town – an achievement obtained by only one per cent of all blood donors nationwide.

Also praised was David Kidd, David Lewins, Colin Lloyd and Paula Pickersgill for packing 75 pints over the years.

The group was presented with crystal awards alongside other Yorkshire donors at ceremonies held by NHS Blood and Transplant.

Donna Batty, lead donor relations manager at NHS Blood and Transplant, said: “It is amazing to see the dedication of these long-standing donors. They are an inspiration to us all and we hope that others will follow in their footsteps to save and improve the lives of many people.

“We are grateful to all those donors who gave blood over the summer. We appreciate not everybody was able to do so, as they may have been busy enjoying the weather, been away on holiday or given blood too recently to donate again. If you can, please book your next appointment now. New donors are always welcome.”

Upcoming appointments in the Calderdale area are available at: St John The Divine Church Hall, Brighouse (September 13 and 27); North Bridge Leisure Centre, Halifax (September 4 and 18); St Paul’s Methodist Church, Sowerby Bridge (September 9).
