Dream job inspired by tragic sister

ENTERPRISING Jo Royle has followed her dream and set up her own company – inspired by her sister Sarah who died in Singapore last year.

The 35-year-old, of Todmorden, will launch Royle Events on May 20 with a charity fashion show.

Jo said she decided to start her own events management company after the success of a fashion show, called Singapore for Sarah, she organised last year in memory of her sister.

Sarah, 31, died in June last year after falling from an apartment block in Singapore on a night out.

The sisters – along with sister Premsa, 33 – were very close and had both organised fashion shows in Calderdale in the past to raise cash for charities.

Jo and Sarah organised a show in 2006 at Hebden Bridge Cinema to raise money for Animals Asia, to help rescue a Moon Bear from daily torture in China, and again in 2008 at Todmorden Town Hall, which Sarah flew back from Spain for.

Jo said: “When something like Sarah’s death happens, it changes the course of how you see things. She totally inspired me.

“But instead of going down a path of despair, I charged about setting up Royle Events.”

Premsa has also since quit a job in Manchester to open up her own shop in Tormorden called Enchanting Wood, selling handmade toys and kitchens made by Sarah’s first boyfriend Eddie Wade.

Jo said: “A lot of people have been so inspired by Sarah they are going for things in life that they believe in.”

The launch night show, from 7.30pm at Border Rooms, Venue, Todmorden, features business and designers including Todmorden’s Halo Boutique, Boudoir Shushop, Hebden Bridge’s Sage & Onion and Halifax’s To Die For.

Tickets are available from those shops and cost £7, with all proceeds towards Epliepsy Action. Top raffle prize on the night is a civil wedding ceremony – donated by Lita Hallyburton of Ceremonies North West – worth £400.

Jo added: “Goodie bags for each guests contain vouchers, including from Element in Hebden Bridge, so it would suit anyone about to get married or already married who wou ld want to renew their vows. It’s a great prize.”
