Fire crews were mobilised at 4.04 am today(Wed) after a vehicle caught fire on the M62.
An Elland firestation spokesman said an HGV driver heard a loud bang and initially thought a tyre had exploded but then noticed a fire in the tractor unit under the engine.
He detached his trailer from the unit and used a dry powder extinguisher to put the blaze out.
Crews made sure the vehicle was safe and the cause was a fracture in the engine compartment which led to oil spraying and catching fire.
Police and highway officials arranged for the vehicle to be removed and traffic was not affected.
