Duo agree to stay at Shay
SCOTT Phelan and Phil Senior are the latest players to commit themselves to Halifax Town's second season in Unibond One North.
New boss Neil Aspin revealed that the duo would be back at the club when the players begin pre-season training at the start of next month.
Former Everton trainee Phelan, 21, was a big hit after arriving from Bradford City.
But his campaign ended prematurely after he suffered a bad knee injury at home to Colwyn Bay at the end of February.
Senior, 26, followed Nigel Jemson to the Shay from Ilkeston having previously had lengthy spells at Huddersfield Town and Northwich.
But he made just a couple of league starts at the beginning of the season before being replaced between the posts by Jon Kennedy.
He was back as the team's number one at the end of the season after Jemson took over as caretaker manager following the sacking of Jim Vince.
"Scott is a good young player," said Aspin. "But he is someone who has had a couple of injuries.
"Halifax Town have not seen the best of him yet, but he will do well for us.
"Phil is an experienced keeper who did not get many opportunities last season."
Senior is likely to have to battle for a place in the side with a second, as yet unnamed, keeper.
"We will be bringing in another keeper as well," said Aspin.
"We wont have a big squad, but I feel you need two keepers. You need it for competition to provide places and for training. It is more professional."
Burnley manager Owen Coyle has signed a contract extension to keep him at Turf Moor until 2013.
Coyle, who guided the Clarets into the Premier League through the play-offs last month, had been linked with the Celtic vacancy following Gordon Strachan's recent departure but made his commitment to Burnley clear from the start.
And the Scot has made that commitment official by extending his current deal by a further two years until the end of the 2012-13 season.
Clarets operational director Brendan Flood expects Coyle to continue moulding a team committed to playing "attractive football".
"We are delighted to secure Owen's commitment to Burnley Football Club for a four year period until the end of 2012/13 season," he said. "Owen is a young manager with a great future, who will continue to revive the traditions of Burnley FC to develop young British talent and to play attractive football.
"As this year represents the club's 50th anniversary since we won the First Division, we are delighted that Owen will lead the club and its fans through one of the most exciting seasons in our history.
"The community has recognised Owen's qualities and we are sure everyone will welcome this news, so that we can now concentrate on our plans for a very successful season."
