Durham City 1 FC Halifax Town 1: Now do that again - Vince

DELIGHTED, deflated and frustrated summed up boss Jim Vince's emotions after watching his side return from the league leaders with a point from a 1-1 draw.

Delighted by the performance, deflated by the result and frustrated that his side cannot produce this kind of performance on a consistent basis.

Town produced their best display for several months, taking the lead midway through the first half with a goal from Danny Meadowcroft.

They continued to dominate for the rest of the game but were pegged back, rather unfortunately, when Ritchie Sutton deflected a Lewis Dodds shot past a wrong-footed Jon Kennedy.

"The best team in the league will be the one that consistently performs to a high level," said Vince. "We have flattered on occasions this season.

"We have played well in some games but not in others.

"Some performances have not been acceptable - this was.

"The lads wanted to win the game - and should have done.

"I am pleased, disappointed, frustrated that we have not got three points."

Durham, who lost for the first time in the league this season a week ago, were played off the park by Town who looked dangerous every time they went forward.

"I have watched Durham play. They are top of the league and have dominated Conference North teams," said Vince.

"Do you say we are going to show you how good we are, or are you smarter?

"We were smarter than them.

"Once we controlled the game we started to play and when you have players like Mark Peers and Junior Brown in your team they can't handle you.

"Hopefully people have seen how good we can be and it is a matter of kicking on from here now.

"If we play like this for the next 10 games we will be there or thereabouts come the end of the season.

"But we have to build the momentum."

Sutton was particularly unlucky to get the final touch on the goal that gave Durham a point having started the game in midfield alongside Paul Evans.

He was forced to switch to central defence when Danny Meadowcroft left the field after damaging his shoulder clearing off his own line.

"What can you do with a deflection," said Vince. "It shows how fortunate Durham have been.

"You have a squad of players who are flexible and can go into different positions. We have a nucleus of players who can do that.

"I thought Ritchie Sutton was fantastic in the first 25 minutes and it was a shame Danny got injured.

"I felt we were just too strong for Durham at that time. We were tenacious, we won the ball and Ritchie was the fulcrum for that.”

Meadowcroft suffered a dislocated shoulder, although the joint popped back in before he had left the field.

Paul Collins was not so fortunate as he was carried from the pitch after suffering a knee injury in the seventh minute.

Vince admitted that he feared the left back would be out for the rest of the season.

While Town were held to a draw, Bamber Bridge beat Curzon Ashton 1-0 to move to within a point of Town in third place.

Colwyn Bay are up to fourth, two points behind the Shaymen, thanks to a 3-2 win at Garforth Town.

Newcastle Blue Star were 4-2 winners at Trafford on Saturday, but were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Woodley Sports yesterday as they moved up to sixth, seven points behind the Shaymen with six games in hand.

Lancaster City and Ossett Albion were the weekend’s big losers, City going down 5-3 at home to bottom side Salford City with Albion losing 5-3 at Mossley.
