East Leeds 38 Ovenden 6: Still no joy for Ovenden

Ovenden's miserable run continued with another heavy defeat in poor conditions.

The home side started well and scored in the first few minutes when Ben Walkin broke on the blind side of the scrum to go in for the first of his three tries, Steve Parnell adding the extras.

Ben Lister and Matty Collins soon levelled when a neat kick through by Wes McGibbon was touched down in the corner by Steve Gracey. Scott Allen converted superbly.

This gave the visitors heart and they were unlucky not to take the lead after some good work by Matt Turner Chris Geoghegan and Matt Short.

A forward pass thwarted Easts before Ovenden lost the ball allowing Parnell to put in a crossfield kick which led to Jason Priestley scoring unapposed, Parnell adding the kick.

Ovenden then conceded a penalty. Easts moved the ball across the field and Priestley scored his second try. Parnell's made it 18-6 at half time.

Great defence by Lister, Short and McGibbon kept Easts out before Wilkin took the ball 35 metres out and broke through some poor defensive efforts to score under the posts.

The lead was increased in the next play when the ball was moved wide to give David Nurse a try on the overlap before Wilkin and Priestley both scored again to register hat tricks.
