EDL clash with opposition group

Halifax town centre is awash with police as members of the English Defence League arrive in the town centre.

Clashes between the EDL and members of an opposition demonstration in King Cross have already taken place as police tried to keep the two groups apart.

A 21 year old man has been arrested by police following the incident for possessing an offensive weapon.

EDL members walked down the middle of the road as the made their way through Sowerby Bridge towards Halifax.

Hundreds of EDL members are making their way into the town for the planned demonstration at Eureka! car park.

Police vans, horses and helicopters have been called in from throughout Yorkshire to try and limit the disruption to the town centre.

Alcohol will not be sold in Halifax until after the rally.
