A dedicated primary school teaching assistant celebrated 25-years of service to education.

Christine Hughes has been instrumental in educating Siddal primary school pupils for quarter of a century.

To celebrate her contribution to the school a party was held in the reception classroom and family, friends and past and present colleagues to a special assembly.

Headteacher Anne Pendlebury said: “Christine goes the extra mile in everything she does. She volunteers in many extra-curricular activities and even at the weekends.

“The children love her - she calls them ‘blossom’ and she has a good relationship with parents and the community.”

Mrs Hughes was presented with £150 in vouchers from Calderdale council and school staff gave her hotel vouchers.

Christine Hughes said: “The day was a great surprise and wonderful to see old colleagues. Over the years, it’s been wonderful working with different children and now teaching their children - it’s a wonderful job.”

Mrs Hughes two sons both attended the original Siddal primary school. Today, her nieces and nephews are pupils at the school.
