There was an anxious wait for thousands of families across Calderdale today (Thursday) as primary school places were revealed.

Almost 90 per cent of Calderdale pupils will now attend their top preference school and all children starting reception received a school place.

Figures released by Calderdale Council reveal that 2,289 out of 2,547 pupils with an application were allocated a place at their first choice school.

Meanwhile, 157 pupils were allocated their second preference, 26 were allocated their third preference, eight pupils were allocated their fourth preference and six pupils received a place at their fifth choice school.

In 55 cases, parental preference could not be met and an alternative school was allocated.
