A Calderdale children’s centre has been graded outstanding following a visit by the regulator Ofsted.

Ash Green Children’s Centre in Mixenden was visited by inspectors at the end of February.

They praised the centre, which currently has 45 children on the register, for having “highly skilled staff who recognise the uniqueness of each child.”

The report also said: “Children have access to a very well-planned outdoor area, providing plentiful opportunities to develop skills for the future.”

Inspectors also praised children’s behaviour, the outcomes of the children and the highly effective partnerships with other agencies, parents and children.

Tina Burke, Children’s Centre Manager since it opened in 2004 said she felt they were able to achieve outstanding in all areas due to the care, commitment and flexibility of the staff.

“The staff here are all highly motivated and knowledgeable and they have high aspirations for all children and their families.

“We are able to engage families in activities and services that will allow them to meet their aspirations.

“The centre has leaders who are passionate about supporting children and families and they effectively lead their teams in meeting individual children’s needs and are reflective in looking for ways to develop the Centre and its services.

“Partnership with other agencies, in particular Ash Green Community Primary School have been key to our success.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff and the families who have supported Ash Green Children’s Centre on its journey to become an outstanding setting and we are very proud of this achievement,” she said.
