Calderdale householders told to ‘get insulated’

Calderdale Council is urging people to take advantage of free and discounted loft and cavity wall insulation.

Polystyrene beads for stone cavities are also available to qualifying households.

The officer is only likely to last for a few months because of Government policy changes which are expected to come into effect later this year.

According to the council, discounts of up to £650 for installation work also exist for all householders.

More and more companies are beginning to offer free loft and cavity wall insulation, regardless of the householders circumstances.

Some are even offering cash back deals as an additional incentive to low income households who claim benefits.

Average household energy bills have been predicted to rise to up to £4,000 a year by 2020.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, insulation can reduce current energy bills by up to £310.

The council’s “Handy Person” service can help less able householders to clear their lofts so that insulation can be installed.

A small project run by the council has found ways of insulating older stone houses and properties with uninsulated attic bedrooms.

Polybead or urethane foam cavity wall insulation can be fitted in suitable stone cavities that are clear of rubble and stone ties.

Insulation can also be fitted to attic bedrooms making a big difference to the warmth and comfort of the room, particularly during the colder winter months.
