Crossley Heath School have held their annual Spirit Day to show support and solidarity to young lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students by wearing something purple.

Sixth form and staff wore a purple item of clothing and other students could wear a purple accessory such as a purple ribbon on their tie or blazer.

Debbie Parkinson, from the school, said: “Spirit day was established by a Canadian teenager, Brittany McMillan, in 2010, as she wanted to pay homage to several young American teenagers who committed suicide due to homophobic bullying at school or college.”
