The Gleddings Preparatory School is celebrating a double success.
This year marks its 50th year at Birdcage Lane, Savile Park, Halifax, and it has bolstered its position as one of the country’s leading private prepatory schools. It is a regular in the top 50 preparatory schools featured in The Sunday Times Parent Power Supplement and this year reached its highest position – 23rd.
Throughout Calderdale it is the only school, state or private, in the top 100.
Head teacher Jill Wilson said: “Everything we do is aimed at nurturing in all of our children a love of learning together with the skills to become lifelong learners.
“Children at The Gleddings come to school with a wide range of abilities – we are non-selective.
“All of our pupils achieve highly in relation to their attainment on entry.
“This is reflected in the Level 5 National Test successes of our 11-year-olds published in The Sunday Times Parent Power Supplement.
“We recognise the enormous importance of technology and we employ a team of specialist ICT teachers to deliver ICT skills and to make ICT central to all our teaching and learning.”
The Gleddings also provides many extra-curricular activities including sports, martial arts, pottery, textiles and cookery, dance, drama and musical theatre opportunities.
Last year The Gleddings was awarded Confucius Classroom status by the Chinese government as a centre for the teaching of Mandarin to pupils, parents, other schools and the business community.
Recently, 24 musicians from the Beijing University Primary School visited The Gleddings and entertained The Gleddings children, along with pupils from Savile Park, Copley and Salterhebble Primary schools at The Square Chapel, Halifax.
The school is also part of IAPS (The Independent Association of Preparatory Schools) which includes the top preparatory schools in the country and the IAPS insist on the maintenance of the highest standards of care and education.
