A temporary replacement for Janet Donaldson – mysteriously suspended as director of children’s services in Calderdale – has been announced.
He is Stuart Smith, 53, who in the early 1990s was one of Calderdale Council’s two deputy directors of education. For the past decade he has been director of education in Liverpool.
Mr Smith, pictured, has been credited with helping to transform schools there. He is expected to remain in Calderdale until councillors complete an investigation into Ms Donaldson’s handling of her department, which is also responsible for education, family support and school support services.
A council spokesman said: “He has considerable experience of working in a senior capacity.”
Children’s social care in Calderdale has been under the spotlight since critical reports about safeguarding children were published nearly two years ago by Ofsted.
