A FORMER brewery has opened its doors to Calderdale’s toddlers.

However, The Fountain Springs Nursery, based at The Maltings, will offer milk not beer in its bottles.

The former Fountain Head Brewery has undergone extensive renovations after being acquired by Hipperholme and Lightcliffe High School.

The nursery is preparing to officially open its doors in September 2011.

Offering 60 places for children aged between three months and five years old, the centre recently held an open weekend to give parents the first taste of the facilities on offer.

Julian Dowson, who has been involved in the development, said: “Watching the staff interact with the children during this weekend’s ‘meet and greet’ was enchanting.”

Amanda Forrest will manage the centre and said the renovations had made the most of the existing features of the building while also adapting to offer fresh and interesting surroundings.

Despite being a fully-functioning private nursery, it will also involve students from Hipperholme and Lightcliffe.

The pupils, who have signed up for the vocational courses, will be able to study childcare and observe how a real nursery works.

Other developments at The Maltings include the recently opened Hi-Energy gym and fitness centre and catering facilities.
