Parents joined their children for another afternoon of scientific fun at Elland Church of England School.

Last week parents and children were taught the tricks of the circus trade, but this week they took on a different kind of challenge with a series of exciting scientific experiments.

The group tried six different experiments, including cornflower slime, alka seltzer rocket and blow up balloon as they learned about science, as well as how to work with each other.

The parents’ workshop is the second of three run by the Elland school to help parents spend time with their children.

Hayley Walker, learning mentor at Elland C of E, said she was delighted with their progress.

“It was another really good session and it’s just great to see the parents spending time with their children.

“We hope these sessions will form a big part of family learning.

“They enjoyed making lava lamps and trying some fizzy sherbet they made, and it was great to see them enjoying themselves.

“Next week is our final session and it’s called Chocolate Dream, and we’re really looking forward to it,” Hayley added.
