Poet’s passion brings fun into the classroom at Rishworth School

Poet Terry Caffrey’s passion for language shone through when he visited Rishworth School to give a presentation and run workshops with Y7.

He engaged with the pupils and by the end of the session he had remembered almost everyone’s name and made some kind of joke about it – which they all loved. He used the workshops to inspire their imaginations to produce sentences starting with the words ‘It was so quiet you could hear……….’ Terry showed the children how to make mini booklets in which they included their sentences and they have done follow-up work in their English lessons. Pictured with Terry Caffrey are Carrick Keighley-Payne, Charly Smith, Lucy Denton all age 12.
