THE 420 children at Old Earth Primary School, Elland, have a new playground made from recycled materials, including the rubber soles from trainers.

It was created by Iplas Ltd, of Hopwood Lane, Halifax.

The eco-friendly school already grows its own vegetables, which are used for school dinners, has its own wind turbine, a biomass boiler, a greenhouse made from recycled bottles and an eco extension. It has also twice been voted the ‘Greenest School in Calderdale’.

Headteacher Paul Reynolds said: “We are delighted. The school is strongly committed to the environment, so it’s great that we have been able to involve our eco warrior pupils in the design process.”
