Hairdressing students at Calderdale College learnt some insider tricks of the trade from a top hairdresser.

Chris Foster, voted Best Men’s Hairdresser of the Year 2014, visited the college to celebrate it becoming the first British Barbering Assocication approved training centre in the UK.

The multi award-winning hairdresser is renowned for pushing traditional barbering beyond its conventional boundaries.

Speaking at the college, Chris said: “We wanted to award the excellent work been done here.

“I think its important to encourage young people to see the industry as a serious career path.”

Barbering lecturer at the college, Daniel Geraghty, said: “It was so surreal to host Britain’s best men’s hairdresser. I have been following Chris Foster for some time and have seen him establish within the industry. Chris’ demonstration went really well, he has a wealth of knowledge and he built a great rapport with our students.

“It is an amazing achievement to be the first official BBA approved training centre in the UK. It is great to be recognised as producing first class barbers, this partnership will ensure our students receive expert advice and guidance from the BBA to enable them to go on to fulfil a successful barbering career.”
