Forty people toured Halifax learning about the town’s markets past and present.
Calderdale Heritage Walks Guide David Nortcliffe led the group around the Piece Hall, Woolshops, Old Market, Russell Street, Halifax Borough Market, Market Street and Westgate.
“We had a look at the history going back to the earliest cloth halls and the first covered retail market, the Red Hall, which was near the bottom of Russell Street. Halifax Borough Market was looked at inside and out and we discussed the wider role of the markets’ department,” he said. It was part of a winter programme of walks.
