The Shelf Gala Queen is looking forward to leading the procession on Saturday.

Emily Walker, 10, will be one of the stars of the show when the Gala takes place tomorrow.

Her friend, Gracie Calam, also 10, will be her attendant on the big day. It will be the 53rd time the Gala, which is in Shelf Park, has been held.

Emily’s mum, Nichola, said: “She is really looking forward to the Gala, she has been talking about it for weeks.”

“It should be a really good day for her and Gracie and hopefully the weather will okay.”

A procession of local bands will leave from Interface car park on Halifax Road at 12.45pm and arrive in the park at around 1.20pm.

There will then be performances by Qaws-e-khuzah Belly dancers, Ryburn 3 Step and music from another band. Dancestars will also perform a brilliant dance routine and we are joined again this year by the Odsal Cadets and The Yorkshire Regiment.

Charlotte Wells, who is on the organising committee for the Gala, said: “Our main attraction this year is going to be a fantastic sheep, dog, duck and geese display from the Mellin family who drew in the crowds when they appeared at our Gala in a previous year.

“We have a variety of food outlets along with the ever popular tea tent and beer tent.”
