Encaustic art is hot stuff at society

The latest meeting of the Halifax Art Society saw members introducted to the concept of encaustic art.

Demonstrator for the evening was Pat Fairclough, who led a workshop on the technique, which involves hot wax painting.

Pat, armed with a hot iron and sticks of coloured beeswax, demonstrated the method of transferring the wax onto the paper.

The art form has been around since 100 AD and by the end of the evening, members had produced pictures that were worthy of exhibiting.
