Anti-social behaviour at West View Park is putting off the public from using it, according to a local resident and former councillor.
Keith Hutson says the park has been constantly used by drinkers for the last two weeks who then smash beer bottles on the ground.
The former Warley councillor fears local residents will be discouraged from visiting the park as a result.
He said: “It can begin from early afternoon and continue until two or three in the morning.
“One lady who lives nearby took her four-year-old son to the park and asked them to stop drinking and smashing bottles and they just verbally abused her.
“With the weather like it is, there’s going to be a lot more behaviour like this.
“People think this is an area that isn’t being used so we’ll use it as a drinking den.
“We try to give the park a positive profile such by holding family fun days here but people will be put off from using it.”
Mr Hutson wants the police to take a more active role in tackling the behaviour.
He said: “When we try to report these issues to the police we can’t get through
“I’d like the police to respond when residents phone them
“Residents are encouraged to report these things but when they can’t get through they feel even more frustrated and alone.”
