THE scaffolding is growing around the high rise flats in Mixenden, Halifax, as Pennine Housing prepares to put a thermal jacket over each block to improve the insulation and help cut heating costs.
The balconies will also be enclosed to create small conservatories.
The work is part of an energy saving scheme that will benefits 1,000 properties, including terraces, bunglalows, detached and semi-detached properties in Mixenden, Ovenden and Central Halifax.
The entire cost will be in the region of £10 million.
Tom Miskell, the chief executive of the Together Housing Group, which incorporates Pennine, said the work would dramatically improve living conditions and the visual appearance of the area.
