Two Girlguiding UK members from Calderdale will set off on an exciting adventure this summer to Finland for Roverway 2012.
Sophie Bottomley, 17, of Greetland, and Fiona Roberts, 38, of Brighouse, will be among 3,000 guides from around the world.
Sophie, is a Young Leader at Elland Guides and Fiona is a leader at 2nd Rastrick Rainbows, Guides and Senior Section and the 20th Bradford Senior Section at Shelf.
They will spend four days in July travelling through Finland, meeting people and sampling the local culture, before spending five days at the Evo Campsite in Hameenlinna, around 60 miles from the Finnish capital Helsinki.
Sophie won through a selection process to secure a place on Roverway in a 10-strong north east contingent known as Hadrians Hikers.
She has raised over £1,500 for the trip from raffles, an Indian buffet meal, race night, bun and craft sales and quizzes.
“I am excited to be involved in this unique event which will be a trip of a lifetime and an experience I will never forget,” she said.
Fiona is travelling as a leader of a patrol of under 18s from all around the country.
She has been on international trips with guiding before but not to an event like Roverway.
“I will get to do all the activities as well,” she said.
She is looking forward to seeing Helsinki, visiting an island and backpacking.
Roverway 2012 is open to senior section members aged 16 to 22 and around 100 from the UK are attending.
The event is organised by the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGS) and the World Organisation of Scouting Movements (WOSM).
