A SOWERBY Bridge park is being revamped through the efforts of residents and grant aid.
The Dec the Rec Group was formed to rescue Beech Road Recreation Ground from decay.
A toddler playground was created under phase one and phase two has now been completed involving gym equipment, planting, seating and landscaping.
Community Spaces Big Lottery Fund contributed nearly £50,000 and other grant aid has come through 106 planning money, Marks & Spencer, SITA and West Yorkshire Police.
Work was co-ordinated by Groundwork Leeds and Calderdale Council (Safer Cleaner Greener Team). Lighting and a skatepark will be included in the next phase of work.
“We started the group to get the park back in good order for children to play but it has brought the community together and we have held fun days there,” said secretary Paula Taylor.
The next event is a mini-Olympics day on Saturday, June 23.
