The Canal & River Trust which is responsible for 2,000 miles of waterways wants volunteer lock keepers at Salterhebble, Halifax.
Last year, 250 people nationally responded to the first appeal to help boaters through locks during the peak summer season. This year’s appeal has been extended to include more than 50 locations including Salterhebble. Last year it was estimated lock keepers assisted 1,500 boats each week, helped reduce water loss by encouraging lock sharing and also improved safe passage through locks.
