A BUMPER procession will lead the crowds to Brighouse Gala at Wellholme Park on Saturday.

Chairman Phil Poole said there had been renewed interest in the gala and the procession would be double the length of last year.

And several new organisations will be on the gala field.

Mr Poole said it was evident that more people were getting involved in community organisations.

“The response has been brilliant,” he said.

An added plus was that many charities were moving away from the traditional tombola and looking at new ways of raising funds, said Mr Poole.

Families can look forward to a whole range of entertainment.

Calderdale College is bringing a mobile cave for people to clamber through.

There will be mini go-karts and rides on a model rainway, ducking stool, donkey rides, dog show, Punch and Judy and again the popular fun fair.

Community groups giving displays include Brighouse Rangers Junior Rugby, Diamonds Gymnastics, Brighouse Star Twirlers, Clifton Rangers FC, and Rastrick Crickettes.

The procession sets off from Garden Road Recreation Ground around 1 pm and tours the town centre on route to the gala field.
