A TRAIL of beautiful blooms raised cash for a children’s wildlife project.
President of The Rotary Club of Elland Hazel Metcalfe opened the doors to her garden and the allotments on Dewsbury Road were on show as part of a day of open gardens in Elland.
Mrs Metcalfe said: “It’s gone really well.”
Visitors could also visit Old Earth School to see the work carried out so far on the project, which will benefit from the funds raised from the event – a wild flower meadow and bird and bee garden.
When completed, the area will have been transformed to include a host of wildlife-friendly features, such as bird feeders, bug boxes and hedgehog houses. The Rotary club has secured a £1,000 grant towards the project and is hoping the two-day open gardens trail, which included a plant sale, will have helped them collect the rest of what they needed to reach their £2,000 total.
