A five-year-old girl from Halifax has gone to great lengths for charity by doing a sponsored swim in memory of her late great-grandma.
Evie Tasker, from Boothtown, has raised more than £500 for Overgate Hospice with her fundraising efforts.
Evie swam unaided at the Halifax Swimming Pool on Sunday in memory of her late great-grandma Freda Brearley.
Proud mum Steph Bray said: “Evie swam a fantastic 18 lengths in 30 minutes.
“Each length was 25 meters so she swam 450 metres in total.
“She has raised a whopping £527 for Overgate and had family and friends on the day supporting her.
“She was completely unfazed by it all and full of energy and excitement about it.
“She’s a fantastic swimmer and absolutely loves it.
“The life guards said it was brilliant that a five-year-old could swim at that pace and quality for so long.
“As a reward I bought Evie her 100m, 200m and 400m swimming badges.
“Overgate have been very supportive and just overwhelmed with Evie’s efforts, and they are going to present her with a certificate as well.”
Laura Witham, fundraiser for Overgate, said: “It’s a fantastic effort considering she’s only five-years-old.
“I’d like to say a huge well done to Evie, and a big thank you to the staff at Halifax Swimming Pool who were very accommodating and even sponsored Evie themselves.”
