FC Halifax Town 1 Northwich Victoria 1: Vardy scare for Town
JAMIE Vardy is at the centre of an injury scare today after suffering a suspected broken foot in last night's 1-1 draw with Northwich Victoria at the Shay.
The Town striker, who laid on the opening goal for Danny Holland, took a blow before the break but played through the full 90 minutes, grazing a post with a stoppage time shot.
He limped away from the ground and boss Neil Aspin faces an anxious wait before discovering the extent of the damage.
"Jamie played the whole of the second half and might have a broken foot," said Aspin.
"He got kicked in the first half and it has swollen up.
"He will have an X-ray so we will have to wait and see."
Even without the potential injury problem, Aspin would have been a frustrated man after watching his side dominate only to concede a second half equaliser to Wayne Riley.
"I have nothing but praise for the players," he said. "I felt in the first two home games we didn't play with enough tempo.
"But the tempo last night was good which it has to be for us to play at our best.
"That was the best we have played this season against, on paper, the best team in the division.
"We dominated from start to finish - I didn't expect to dominate so much - and I am probably as frustrated as I have been since I became a manager.
"We just didn't get the luck we needed. Football is a game of fine margins and the performance deserved better.
"But it is a long season and I have seen enough to know that when we hit form we can beat anyone in the division."
The match officials felt the wrath of the home crowd after a series of baffling decisions, none more so than the yellow card shown to Ollie Ryan for a two-footed tackle on Matthew Plummer, a challenge that warranted a red.
"I am not going to comment on the officials," said Aspin. "The crowd gave their opinion of them and I will leave it with them."
