FC Halifax Town: 22-goal Ashley aims to raise bar
FAILURE in 2009-10 is not an option for FC Halifax Town.
That's the view of Ashley Stott who, along with Mark Peers, is contracted to the club for next season.
The Shaymen's bid to gain promotion out of Unibond One North at the first attempt petered out in the second half of the campaign with just two wins in the final two months of the campaign.
It was a run of results that hurt the club and Stott says it hurt the players as well.
"All the lads know we underachieved," he said. "Now we have to move forward.
"Those of us who are here have to remember the feeling and make sure it doesn't happen again.
"The club has to move on - that is the expectation.
"I came here to progress my career."
Stott finished as the club's leading scorer with 22 goals although only one of those came in the final couple of months.
And while it was a decent haul for the man who arrived from League of Wales outfit Bangor City last summer, he is aiming to do better next season.
"It is not bad, but I expected more from myself," he said.
"I am always quite critical of myself and the aim now is to come back for the start of the season better."
Stott missed the final two games of the campaign after being stretchered from the field in the first half of the damaging home defeat at the hands of Curzon Ashton on April 13.
But he is hopeful of recovering in time to begin pre-season training under new boss Neil Aspin who met with the players for the first time at the end of last week.
"Two X-rays revealed there was no break but there is the possibility of a hairline fracture," said Stott.
"There was severe ligament damage and some tissue damage as well.
"Hopefully, in the hands of Alan Russell Cox, I will be back as quickly as possible.
"It is still quite sore but the estimate is another four weeks before I can start running on it.
"I hope to be raring to go by the start of pre-season training."
