FC Halifax Town 2 Mossley 0: Eight unbeaten but Vince wants more as Town 'win ugly'

FC Halifax Town moved up to second in Unibond One North with a 2-0 win over Mossley last night, but boss Jim Vince still wants more.

A first half penalty from Jon Smith and a late header from Junior Brown were enough to extend the Shaymen's unbeaten league run to eight matches.

And while Vince was pleased with the points he admitted to feeling a little 'flat' by the performance which was not as impressive as recent displays.

"We have won ugly, but we are second in the league," he said.

"But I don't like that. That's not what I want for the fans - I want to be more entertaining than that.

"I feel a bit flat despite the fact we have won 2-0.

"I thought the players worked extremely hard, but a lot of the running was ineffective.

"We did a lot of chasing because they were moving the ball and when we had the ball we didn't keep possession for long enough.

"I don't think it was a penalty so we have had a little bit of luck, but what did Mossley do?

"They had plenty of possession but what opportunities did they create?

"It is five wins on the bounce - 22 points out of 24 - and that's not bad, is it?

"Let's keep it going."

Vince had been desperate for his side to win as he looked to erase the memory of the 3-1 defeat at Mossley in September - Town's last league defeat.

"It wasn't as emphatic as I wanted," he said. "I thought our football was good in the first half.

"They matched us player for player and we found it a bit more difficult in the second period.

"It softens the memory of the game at Mossley."

"I think we did sit back and let them have too much possession but it was not intentional.

"Did we sit back and settle for 1-0? I think the players did, but I didn't want us to.

"We stopped passing the ball and putting it into the areas we had in the first half."

Brown's goal took his tally to six in as many league games, but it was only Smith's second - his first coming at Silsden in the FA Cup.

"Jon showed really good character," said Vince. "I didn't want him to take it because, for me, Ashley Stott is the penalty taker.

"But fair play to him he made a statement and did well. His energy levels were very good."

Smith was only on the field because of an injury to Damien Allen who limped off clutching a hamstring after just three minutes.

And Vince will wait a couple of days before assessing the injury ahead of Saturday's trip to Woodley Sports.

FC Halifax Town Chairman David Bosomworth and fellow directors Bobby Ham and Stuart Peacock are the open to question guests at the next Supporters' Club meeting in the Weavers on Thursday, November 27 (8pm).

The meeting is open to all HTSC members but new members can join on the evening.

FANS wishing to travel to next Saturday's game at Woodley Sports on the official club coaches can book now by calling 07707 143094. The cost will be 11 and transport leaves at 12.30pm.
