FC Halifax Town: Crunch time for Shaymen
FC Halifax Town boss Jim Vince has demanded his players stand up and be counted when they travel to Garforth tonight (7.45).
The Shaymen return to Unibond League Division One North action at the Genix Healthcare Stadium after four successive cup ties.
And Vince is looking for a massive improvement on their recent form which culminated in Saturday's 2-1 FA Trophy preliminary round defeat at Harrogate Railway.
"It is simple," he said. "Players have to respond and they have to perform.
"I am accountable for what happens off the pitch, the players are accountable for their performances.
"I put the processes in place that will allow us to achieve our objectives and it hurts me when I see them play like they did on Saturday.
"They go on the pitch and don't do the things we have asked them to do. They think that they know better and are taking it on themselves to do what they should not be doing.
"The players are free to express themselves and have a licence to enjoy playing but there has to be discipline.
"Players make mistakes, that is human, but not consistently."
Vince has yet to finalise his starting line-up, but he will not go with the same 11 that began the game at Station View at the weekend.
"One or two will not be involved," he said. "But that would be expected."
Vince was particularly critical of the midfield after Saturday's defeat, notably their role in set plays.
"We work extremely hard on set plays but the first two free kicks we got, Jonathan Smith did his own thing," said Vince.
"The third one we had he did what we had practiced and almost scored.
"Justin Walker is supposed to take the corners, but how many did he take?
"It is all about discipline."
Vince is also looking for more passion from his players as they go in search of what would be a third successive league win.
"This is one of the biggest clubs in non League football," he said. "Perhaps some of the players don't realise how big the club is.
"I saw passion and commitment in the last 20 minutes on Saturday and that was a response to what had gone before - but it was too late
"The previous 70 minutes were not good enough."
Vince has also reacted to the criticism of his openness after matches.
"People have been critical of what I have said to the Press after matches," said Vince. "But why shouldn't I say what I do?
"How can you hide behind performances like that.
"If I tell people what they want to hear it does no one any good."
