FC Halifax Town - It will be no walkover - Ham
FC Halifax Town might be favourites to claim the Unibond League Division One North title at the first attempt, but director Bobby Ham knows it will not all be plain sailing.
And the reason is that every team that plays the Shaymen will be desperate to take their scalp.
"Every team that comes to Halifax will treat it as their Wembley," said Ham.
"It is a big club and everyone will be out to put one over on us.
"There is a little apprehension that the expectations might be too much.
"We know what we are trying to achieve and it might take a little longer than some people expect."
Ham spoke this week for the first time since being revealed as a member of the consortium bidding to take over the club more than a year ago.
And rather than looking back over a turbulent summer, he was keen to look forward to a positive future.
"Ultimately all that matters is what happens on the pitch," said Ham. "That is what either makes it all worthwhile or means you get the stick.
"We are a board in it for one reason alone - the team.
"We are keen for it to be successful and as individuals we have always been successful outside football
"The expertise we can bring to Halifax Town can only stand the club in good stead."
In common with fellow board members David Bosomworth and Stuart Peacock, Ham kept quiet throughout the takeover and subsequent relegation from the Blue Square Premier.
"I think one thing you will find with this board is that we will not want to disclose anything until it has been rubber stamped," said Ham.
"For instance, if you are always talking about signing players you alert others to what you are doing.
"You are better off waiting for a done deal - and all the time we were hoping for a done deal.
"The deal started to unwind because people saw that the debt was going down and people were getting paid, they wanted their share."
