FC Halifax Town: Jim expects much better
BOSS Jim Vince is expecting an improvement in Town's attacking play when they travel to Radcliffe Borough in Unibond One North tomorrow.
The Shaymen created a bagful of chances against Rossendale United last weekend but failed to capitalise and managed to slip to a 2-1 defeat - a result that cost them the chance of returning to the top of the table.
"The players are given licence to go out and express themselves," said Vince. "They are urged to show how good they are.
"They have appeared reluctant to do that in the final third in the last three or four games and we need to do better. Is it a confidence issue? Is it expectations? They will have to get use to that because they are at a big club."
Town followed their league defeat with a 2-0 President's Cup reverse at home to Retford on Tuesday night, giving a performance that angered the manager.
"It was not the fact that we lost, it was the lacklustre performance that upset me," he said.
"It was as if the players felt they didn't need to try to win the game. I hate that.
"I know the players care, but the performance suggested they didn't and that is the wrong impression to give the club and the fans."
Vince expects to finally have loan striker Ajay Leitch-Smith available after he has been training all week with his parent club Crewe.
Junior Brown, who was an unused substitute in midweek, is also expected to be available and Tom Baker, who is recovering from illness, is set to start again after playing the first half against Retford.
"Tom is a big player for us and it was always the plan to give him 45 minutes on Tuesday," said Vince.
"We felt that was enough and hopefully he will feel the benefit."
With Jon Smith also available after missing Tuesday's game due to a pre-arranged appointment, Vince effectively has four extra players to select from.
