FC Halifax Town: Nigel's role is to assist
ASSISTANT manager Nigel Jemson might have been the goal hero at Trafford on Tuesday night as FC Halifax Town recorded their first win of the season.
But the former Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday frontman has no intention of demanding a place in the starting line-up for Saturday's trip to Lancaster City.
Jemson bagged what turned out to be the 72nd-minute winner at Shawe View, just five minutes after coming off the bench.
But while he loved every minute of his important cameo, he is content to start the game at the Giant Axe on the sidelines.
"You love coming on, and scoring is nice no matter what age you are," he said. "I would be lying if I said I hadn't enjoyed Tuesday.
"The most important thing was the result but if I can help out squad wise throughout the season, great.
"It gives the manager another option.
"I would love to be involved but I am not one for pushing to get a starting position.
"My job is to assist the manager and help bring on the younger players."
Town's first win was a massive relief after the disappointment of the opening day defeat to Bamber Bridge.
And Jemson is hoping for further improvement in the games over the bank Holiday weekend - at Lancaster on Saturday and home to Durham on Monday.
"The most important thing was to get Saturday out of our system," said Jemson.
"We let ourselves down on Saturday, but more importantly we let the supporters down.
"It was a big game, everyone was looking forward to it and it was a big disappointment.
"Tuesday's performance was a step up from Saturday's and there is still room for improvement. We can get better and we will get better.
"Tuesday was about getting a response and getting some points on the board and we got both of those.
"We have some excellent players at the club, but it still won't happen overnight.
"We have to make sure everyone gets to know each other better and I am sure that performances will come.
"If we had not won on Tuesday the pressure would have mounted, not necessarily on the management or the players but on the club as a whole.
"It is so new but if everyone is pulling together we will get it right and when we do we will be an outfit to be reckoned with."
