FC Halifax Town: Our chance to go clear

HALIFAX Town have a chance to stamp their authority on Unibond One North this week with two games in 48 hours.

That's the view of keeper Jon Kennedy as the Shaymen prepare for the New Year's Day trip to Harrogate Railway and Saturday's home clash with Wakefield.

Town remain top of the Unibond One North table despite behind held to a 1-1 draw by Ossett Albion at the Shay on Boxing Day in front of a season-high crowd of 1,675.

And they travel to Station View on Thursday for what Kennedy believes is the latest in a series of big matches.

"A club this size, trying to get out of this league means that every game is a big one," he said.

"We play two in three days and the key is to get as many points as we can.

"This is a time of year that sorts teams out and you can pull away if you get a couple of good results."

The Boxing Day clash summed up Town's recent form as they created a stack of chances, fell behind to a breakaway goal and were forced to settle for a point from a late Nigel Jemson goal.

But Kennedy, who has been a spectator for long periods in games, believes the fact that the team is still creating opportunities offers grounds for optimism.

"The frustration is that we know we have the ability to kill teams off and it is not quite going for us," he said.

"But the lads are not too down because we know we are creating chances."

Kennedy played his part in the Boxing Day draw, denying Ossett what would surely have been a decisive second goal when he saved magnificently from Shane Kelsey with eight minutes remaining.

"He should have really buried it," admitted Kennedy. "But he lifted it off the ground and gave me a chance.

"I would have been disappointed if one of our lads had missed a chance like that."

TOWN fans wishing to travel to Harrogate on the supporters'

coach should contact the travel line on 07707 143094. The cost will be 10 and transport leaves the Shay at 1pm.
